so women are supposed to grin and bear the books, the comics, the movies, the plays, the tv shows, the stories, the sci-fi, the translated ancient poems, the fucking millennia of men writing about their self inserts torturing women and it being declared as High Art by other men, we’re supposed to read it in our free time, study it in classrooms, include their styles in our own writing, accept their cultural influence as natural, watch it in the cinema, write about it, talk about it, accept it, aspire it, but men can’t tolerate three seconds of female wish fulfilment of a woman snapping the wrist of a creep without feeling personally kicked in the balls.

this is so ridiculously legit

I took latin at Uni this year and our textbook was stories by Ovid all about Zeus and the many women he tricked, raped, kidnapped etc

Halfway through the year the teacher (enby she/her) made a comment about how “we all need a break from the misogyny and trauma of this textbook, I know it’s a lot to be dealing with”

and i stg the boy in front of me turned to his neighbour and mouthed “trauma?”

they both seemed bemused because they, unlike the girls in the class, had been translating stories that (whilst super old-fashioned) didn’t bother them, didn’t trigger them, didn’t remind them of how their ancestors were treated, didn’t make them think of themselves as the victim. They didn’t flinch when translating the words ‘rape’ or ‘kidnap’ or ‘she screamed’

it was just the “Big Book of Times Zeus Was A Naughty Boy” and it was just boring translation homework

Ladies write some self indulgent shit. Be shameless about it. We deserve to enjoy our literature.
